AFFECTINGCHANGEINC is lead by Ms. Sandra Lester as CEO, and a visionary architectural and change development expert and each project team is carefully assembled for each project. We are architectural interventionalists that specialize in green building and sustainable development. We are able to bring in a wide range of vetted expert architects, engineers, technicians, and other specialty consultants on an as-needed basis.
Sandra is a visionary designer, organizational consultant, educator, facilitator, and leadership coach with international consulting experience. Ms. Lester’s work focus on green building design strategy, systems thinking, organizational change, and sustainability. Her passion is to help her clients make conscientious decisions that create a capacity for resiliency the development of regenerative infrastructure.
Previously, Ms. Lester worked as a Sustainable Design Area Leader at HOK Architects, where she trained designers in the creation of green interiors and architecture, and the building of effective integrated teams. Ms. Lester has over twenty years of local and international experience as a multi-disciplinary designer at various engineering, design and architectural firms.
Ms. Lester is a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, a LEED-accredited Professional with a specialty in Building Design + Construction. Sandra was one of the Founders of Friends of Withrow Park and is an expert on how a community space can be used for engagement around environmental issues and community transformation. She became the Community Leader for the Project Neutral Pilot in Riverdale (Toronto) and further committed hundreds of hours of her own personal time engaging with residents and helping them find ways to reduce their own climate impact through home renovations and shifts in their habits around diet and transportation.
Ms. Lester holds a Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science with minors in Project Management and French, from Ryerson University. Ms. Lester studied social change technologies with C. Otto Scharmer, the holder of the 2015 Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching at MIT’s Presencing Institute. Ms. Lester was the Visiting Professor and Adjunct at University of Manitoba, a frequent Guest Lecturer at many different universities and the Lead Instructor for the Sustainable Building Advisor Program in Toronto. She has a Certificate in Organization Development and Change from Canadian Organization Development Institute (CODI) and a Masters Certificate in Organization Development from Schulich Executive Education Centre.
AFFECTINGCHANGEINC were the authors of the Sustainability Requirements for Ontario’s largest hospital development, Humber River Hospital. LEED 2009 NC Gold is anticipated and this fully-digital hospital has been designed to achieve a 40% cost reduction over an average hospital and achieve a CAD $3 million (£ 1.6 million) yearly savings compared to a code-compliant hospital, and putting HRH 15 years ahead of the 2030 challenge target of 101 kBTU/square foot/year.
AFFECTINGCHANGEINC was instrumental in bringing an environmentally-sustainable vision that was sensitive to local resources, social impact and historical precedents to the five-star Fogo Island Inn. The results are 40% energy savings and 36% water savings while maintaining 5-star hotel guest experience. The development has received many national and international awards including: Tatler Travel Awards 2014 “Style with Soul” Award; Top Ten Best New Restaurants in Canada from en route magazine; the Smith Hotels, Winner, Best Newcomer; and Oprah Winfrey’s “Wow” List, 2013.
